Greenhouse Gases

I went to one of the great centres of GHG emissions recently, Heathrow Airport. It was good to hear on the drive time news that the high carbon economy is thriving there.  July this year was the airport’s third busiest month on record. In anticipation of traffic on the M25 (another emissions centre!) I set off a bit early and, regrettably, added to the emissions as I went by car. Imagine my delight when waiting to collect my passenger I stumbled across a driver from Green Tomato Cars. It is one thing reading about a business but so much more real when you actually come across it.

At long last I have read my personal copy of The UK Renewable Energy Strategy. For the entrepreneur who wishes to pursue business opportunities in the low carbon economy it is a must read and a good read, packed with facts, figures, diagrams charts etc .  I will just pick out one statistic. It says that meeting the renewable energy target will provide around half a million jobs by 2020. That is just renewable energy so it gives a clue to the scale of business opportunities that will be available and we all know the importance of small business in job creation so it will not just be the big boys.

Have you bought your energy saving light bulbs yet. It seems that there are a few concerns about radiation but a while ago undaunted I popped down to Homebase and came home with loads of these at a cost of frumpence because Phillips had a promotion on. Imagine my disappointment when I trotted off to bed to read (not a good idea as they are not recommended for close work) in my energy saving environment. Sure enough light levels are OK but oh misery they do not work with dimmers, they flicker. It was a bit like going to bed in a disco. However all is saved. Scotts of Stow latest catalogue lists a model that works with dimmers, flicker free. I just need a mortgage to buy some.
