Awards

It seems that whatever your interest there is some kind of awards scheme.  Good or bad is a personal matter but what is undeniable is that awards do get people doing things and so it is with the Future Friendly Awards now in their 3rd year.  Future Friendly is a partnership between brands and leading experts aimed at encouraging people to live a more sustainable life, targetting energy and water saving and waste reduction.   Further details can be seen on www.futurefriendly.co.uk. 

There are two awards, Family Award and Community Award.  As the name suggests the Family Award is aimed at families.  The Community Award is an individual bursary.  These awards are not aimed at businesses.  What's great about this is it encourages people to reduce their environmental impact.   This is much needed when we read in the press that the majority of the population believe that climate change is nothing to do with our behaviour or that it is a myth.

Being personally committed to doing my bit I installed a rainwater harvesting tank this year whilst doing some building work.  I have managed to water my garden entirely from this source without using any mains water at all.  This is despite doing some tree planting which needed some serious water to get established.  The really satisfying bit is when I received my metered water bill, down again compared with last year.
